The Influence of Crystallographic Orientation and Grain Boundary on Nanoindentation Behavior of Inconel 718 Superalloy Based on Crystal Plasticity Theory

Abstract The crystal plasticity finite element method (CPFEM) is widely used to explore the microscopic mechanical behavior of materials and understand deformation mechanism at grain-level. However, few CPFEM simulation studies have been carried out analyze nanoindentation polycrystalline microscale level. In this study, a three-dimensional CPFEM-based performed on an Inconel 718 material examine influence different crystallographic parameters behavior. A representative volume model developed calibrate plastic constitutive by comparing stress-strain data with experimental results. indentation force-displacement curves, stress distributions, pile-up patterns are obtained simulation. results show that orientation grain boundary little curves nanoindentation, but significantly local distributions shape patterns. As difference in between grains increases, changes caused effect become more significant. addition, reveal existence boundaries affects continuity distribution. obstruction distribution increases as angle increases. This research demonstrates proposed can well describe compressive behaviors under nanoindentation.
